The Ultimate Hungry Burger

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs. ground beef 15-20% fat
  • 1/4 lbs. cheddar cheese sliced
  • 5 slices bacon
  • 1 lettuce
  • 5 burger buns
  • 2 to matoes slice
  • 1 red oinion sliced & separated into rings
  • ketchup
  • mustard

Instructions

The Prep

  • Very gently divide the beef into 5 pieces.
  • Roll each piece in your hands until the mixture stays together in a ball.

The Cook

  • Cook your bacon until crisp, set to one side and wipe the pan clean of bacon fat.
  • Heat your grill/pan until it is smoking.
  • Place the ball of meat in the pan and squash it down immediately with a flat metal kitchen utensil (I use the back of my hand).
  • Using your finger, make a small dimple in the middle. This stops it from swelling in the middle when it is cooked.
  • Season with salt & pepper. Cook on one side for a couple of minutes or until it is golden brown/charred on one side.
  • Flip the burger and cook for a similar time of the other side or until it is right for you (I prefer rare to medium).
  • Add a couple of slices of the cheddar cheese. They should be melted by the time the burger is cooked.
  • While cooking the second side, slice your bun/s and heat each side in the same pan as the burger.

The Build

  • Lay some lettuce, tomato and onion on the bottom bun. Place the burger and slice of bacon on top.
  • Spread some ketchup and/or mustard on the top bun.
  • Get stuck in!
